Supergroups 2014 alumni

We've had the pleasure of working with some fantastically talented bands and musicians on the Supergroups free recording sessions that we've run so far in partnership with Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative. Whilst had their session released on 12" by Optimo Music, and Naked and Happy Meals have releases coming out soon on Lucky Me and Nightschool Records.

2 excellent brand spanking new bands that have also done the Supergroups sessions this year have self released their Green Door recorded debuts online.

The Vudu Zoo blew us away with their spikey angular post punk which can be had here....

Golden Teacher - Party People / Love 12" EP (Opitmo Music)

Another Optimo release from Green Door Studio which will be coming out in April is the third EP from Golden Teacher. A heady brew of analog house and acid disco this will no doubt sell out extremely quickly so be quick if you want to get your hands on a vinyl copy.

Sonic Youths - Free Sound production courses for unemployed musicians aged 16-25

We're fortunate that things have been so busy recently that we haven't had time to update the website news in a while. So we've managed to miss some releases including The Green Door's very own Sam Smith's Casual Sex - The Bastard Beat E.P. (WCSP), and Emily and Stuart's scuzz trio The Rosy Crucifixion - Split LP (Soft Power Records). We've finished The Amazing Snakeheads debut album for Domino Records, had Sir Bill Drummond from the mighty KLF in, recorded a couple of tracks for Rough Trade's Palma Violets, started a new project with Drag City's Alasdair Roberts, added a tasty new compresor (DBX 165A) to our analog outboard arsenal, and will hopefully get our Plate Reverb fully up and running in the next few weeks.

First up though, we'll be starting our next round of sound production courses for unemployed musicians (aged 16-25) this week. The courses are funded by Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative and we will run them 3 times a year for the next 2 years. The one starting just now in march is full but if you are eligible and interested in the next course we will be running in September please get in touch.

We will be teaching you how to record and produce your music in fun, collaborative workshops...plus you get a full-day's recording session and half-day mixing session FREE! The course is open to musicians (age 16-25) not in full-time Employment, Education or Training.

Saint Max Is Missing And The Fanatics Are Dead (Armellodie Records)

Saint Max is missing and the fanatics are dead, but never fear as their fanatictastic Green Door recorded debut album is coming out on the 21st October on Armellodie records. With a touch of Dexys Midninght Runners, a splash of The Kinks, and a hint of Salford's most famous miserablist poet, this is an irresistible pop brew best taken with your fanciest dancing shoes on.

Saint Max and The Fanatics will be playing album launch shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow on Thursday and Friday October 17th/18th, and the album can be ordered from the link below..

Future Glue - Crooked 7" (Electric Company Records)

The fine gentlemen at Dixon Street Studio's have set up their own label and unleashed this Green Door recorded 3 track 7" on the world. Hats off to them as this is a belter of a single incorporating frenzied amphetamine slide guitar, snarling post punk, and a hurricane of a Syd Barrett cover. Follow the link below to check out Future Glue's pummeling psychedelic sounds and to order the 7".

Free Drumming Workshops

Open to young people aged 10-16, Green Door will be hosting a FREE After School Drum Club every Wednesday from 5pm-7pm. Fresh from their percussion training at the Kusun Cultural Centre in Ghana, Green Door music tutors will be leading group drumming and percussion sessions. There are 6 places available. This project is sponsored by the Scottish Community Foundation.

'SuperGroups' - Free Recording Opportunities

Open to unsigned bands and musicians aged 16-25, Supergroups give each band 5 days in the Green Door Studio to rehearse, record and mix a 4-5 song EP. We will choose a band a month starting in July 2013, and every 4 months, the 3 bands from the previous 3 months form a "Supergroup", who then also get 5 days in the Green Door Studio to rehearse, record and mix a 4-5 song EP. Your recordings can also get full digital distribution (to i-tunes, emusic etc) through Emu Bands. You also get a 4 hour recording skills workshop at the start of your session. This project is sponsored by Creative Scotland Youth Music Initiative and Emu Bands.
